Welcome to today’s women’s international cricket update featuring overnight results, today’s matches, breaking news and a look back through history.
News in brief
- New Zealand sent in to bat by England’s Charlie Dean. The game is still underway as we go to print, with New Zealand having scored 136/7 on the back of a blastathon from Sophie Devine (45). Update: England by 7 wickets. Scores below.
- No surprises in Ireland’s just announced World Cup squad. They’ll have one of the best bowling squads for the English conditions. Still a couple of squads to be announced. Squads named so far here.
- “Kapil Dev and the Indian men’s team won their first-ever World Cup there. We would love to win our first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup there. That would be super cool,” Jemmi Rodrigues told ICC as players are now starting to open up about their chances.
- “In the two years since we lifted the trophy, our depth has improved. The most pleasing thing of late is when we have been successful, it has involved different players stepping up at different times,” from Amelia Kerr
- “There might be some teams who have maybe got a bit more of a target on us, or maybe who are taking us as a bit more of a serious threat than what they did going into the last World Cup, but I don’t think it’s any extra pressure for us,” Lea Tahuhu
- “I will definitely rate this team (India) as favourites, they have the calibre to become champions. No pressure, no overconfidence. T20 cricket is only about playing good cricket,” Harmanpreet Kaur
- Heading into this World Cup I don’t think there’s a favourite, there’s favourites. The term favourite is actually quite hard to pick these days.” Phoebe Litchfield told ICC.
