Jersey Make it Four From Four to Win Tournament

A much improved France put on a bright display with the bat to post a competitive score but Jersey prevailed yet again to finish the tournament undefeated.

Chloe Greechan won the toss for Jersey and elected to field first. In the previous encounter between these two sides on 5th May, the French batters were not bowled out but neither did they post a reasonable score. Today it was different and there was much more intent shown.

Despite losing Alix Brodin (1) early, fellow opener Pooja Ganesh (18) formed a partnership with Poppy McGeown (50*) who is generally one of France’s better strikers of the ball. Today was her day, finding the boundary on four occasions and bringing up the first half century in T20 Internationals for France.

Poppy was also assisted in the advance by captain Marie Violleau (20) and Tara Britton (17) to post a good total of 125/5. Best with the ball was Erin Duffy (1-22). Of the five wickets to fall, three were runouts.

France began the defence well with Cindy Breteche dismissing Maria Da Rocha two balls into the innings and then Lily Greig on the sixth, leaving Jersey two down without scoring after one over. It became 26/3 and then quickly 33/4 in the seventh over.

All the while, Charlie Miles (37*) at the other end just needed a partner to step up. Enter Trinity Smith (56*) who scored her second half century in a 40 ball innings peppered with ten boundaries. She finished the match and the tournament undefeated, as with the team.

Jersey won by 6 wickets and had won all four of their matches and thus champions of the tournament.

Trinity Smith collected her second Player of the Match award.
