Jersey Continue Their Run Feast
For the second time in the day the Jersey batters posted a 150+ score and inflicted defeat upon Austria by 70 runs.
Chloe Greechan won the toss against Austria’s Gandhali Bapat and for the second time in the day chose to bat first. Whereas the team had a slight wobble in the first game, not so here as the openers, Maria Da Rocha (46) and Charlie Miles (57*) put on 100 runs for the first wicket. It was the second century stand in the day and second highest by Jersey batters. It is also the highest opening stand by the team in a T20 International.
Just the two wickets fell, one each to Mahadewa Pathirannehelage (1-21) and Priya Sabu (1-24) as the team racked up 167 runs in the allotted overs.
The Austrian batters began the chase steadily, and did not lose a wicket until the tenth over, but the run rate was pedestrian. When Busra Uca (15) was bowled, the score was 47/1, leaving the team needing 121 from the last ten overs.
The captain Gandhali Bapat (24) top scored but there was little urgency from the batting unit as a whole. Three of the players fell for ducks and the only real victory for the team was ensuring they played out the overs, finishing with 97/7.
Best with the ball was Georgia Mallett (3-14) while Erin Gouge (1-12) was very economical. For her performance with the bat, Charlie Miles was awarded Player of the Match. It was only the second half century scored at this level by a Jersey batter, after Trinity Smith scored the first in the earlier game.
