Born on 21st November 1996 in Bulilima Mangwe, ODI and T20 International player for Zimbabwe, Nomvelo Sibanda.
Nicknamed “Leftie” you would be right in assuming Nomvelo bats left-handed, and right again if you said she bowled left-arm medium pace. It is the latter discipline that Leftie is most known for, although in the recently formed two-day domestic completion she scored the first ever half century – and in the same match took a fifer.
Nomvelo made her T20 International debut for Zimbabwe against Namibia at Walvis Bay in January 2019 and took 1-20. It was a key wicket, the Namibia skipper and best batter, Yasmeen Khan. She has since played a total of 56 T20Is and taken 53 wickets at 15.09, with a best of 5-14 against Namibia (again!) in the final of the Capricorn series in April 2022.
A debut in ODIs came in October 2021 when the entire Zimbabwe team had their first taste of ODI cricket. Nomvelo has played in 20 ODI matches so far, with 16 wickets to her name.
