Born on 30th January 1977 in East London, Cape Province, Alison Hodgkinson is a former Test, ODI and T20I player for South Africa. She also captained the team in both Test and ODI formats.
A right-hand batter and leg-break bowler, it is with the bat that Alison made her mark. Indeed, she only bowled 19 overs in her 49 match career. Shuffled up and down the batting order after a modest beginning, Alison eventually settled into the middle order of all three formats.
Her international debut came in and ODI match against England in June 2000 at Chelmsford and her first entry in the scorebook was having taken a catch to dismiss Charlotte Edwards. Overall in ODIs Alison played 38 matches over 12 seasons which included World Cups in 2000 in New Zealand and at home in 2005. She scored 598 runs with a best of 71, one of two half centuries.
A Test debut came in 2001/02 against India in Paarl, where she scored 77 in the second innings. Two Test matches against England in 2003 saw Alison elevated to the captaincy, making her the fourth player to captain South Africa in Tests. The three Tests in total were her complete career in the longest format. Her high score of 95 came against England in her debut Test as skipper.
Just the eight T20 Internationals where she scored 161 runs with a best of 51. Three of those matches were at the 2012 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
