Born on 6th May 1999, Chester, Cheshire, current Test, ODI and T20 International player for England, Sophie Ecclestone.
A left-arm slow bowler (bats right-handed) Sophie is renowned for her pinpoint accuracy and has spent a large part of her career atop the ODI and T20I bowling charts. Sophie played her ODI and T20 International debuts in 2016 and her Test debut in 2017. She has been a fixture of the England team ever since.
In nine Tests, Sophie has taken 37 wickets at 31.91 with a best of 5-63 – one of three five wicket hauls – against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2023. In the second innings of that match she took 5-129 giving her a rare ten wicket haul of 10-192.
As brilliant as that may be, Sophie’s best performances have been in white ball cricket, both formats. In 82 ODIs she has taken 141 wicketsat 19.16, with a best of 6-36 against South Africa in the 2022 World Cup. In 101 T20 Internationals Sophie has taken 142 wickets at 15.73 with a best of 4-19 against New Zealand at Taunton in 2018.
