Wendy Blunsden

Wendy Blunsden was a former Test and ODI all rounder for Australia. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, she captained the country in one Test match, making her the seventh Test captain of Australia and the first outside of NSW or Victoria.

Born September 2nd, 1942, Wendy played her Test debut in 1972 in Miriam Knee’s Australian team.

When the letter arrived from the AWCC it was the best day of my life, but no one was home so I celebrated with the  dog.

The left handed batter and right arm off break bowler only captained in only the one Test, against New Zealand in 1974/5. A reluctant leader, she stood down after that tour but continued to play for a total of seven Tests.

Wendy was also a member of the Australian ODI team that participated in the first World Cup in 1973. Wendy Blunsden passed away on 1st August 2020.
