News in brief
- New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Maddy Green scored the second highest 5th wicket partnership (159) in T20 Internationals, clawing their side back from a disastrous 11/4, to give their team a competitive 170/5.
- England’s top four all got starts but failed to capitalise and they left themselves with the monumental task of scoring 24 runs in the final over. They fell short, giving New Zealand victory by 14 runs. The series now stands at 1-1 with the decider on the 26th.
- Malaysia suffered their second defeat at the hands of Nepal in the second T20 International, giving the visitors a 2-0 series win. Both teams will join with Thailand, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Qatar competing in the Asia Games Qualifiers starting tomorrow (25th).
- More injury woes plaguing teams heading into the World Cup. It’s Ireland’s turn now as skipper Gaby Lewis pulls out of the tri-series against West Indies and Pakistan with a leg injury. Orla Prendergast will lead the side in her absence in the series which gets underway on Thursday.
- Still two squads to name for the World Cup, with West Indies and Sri Lanka yet to announce, although the latter may have been waiting on the series between Sri Lanka A and New Zealand A to complete. Squads named so far.
