Merissa Aguilleira

Merissa Aguilleira is a former wicketkeeper batter and captain of both Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies.

Born December 14th 1985, Merissa made her ODI debut for West Indies in 2008 against the Netherlands and her T20 International debut in 2009 against South Africa. Soon she secured a distinguished position.

Aguilleira captained her side in 2009 ODI World Cup and the 2010 T20 World Cup. Following that she led West Indies in the 2013 ODI World Cup where her side were runners up. Aguilleira holds the record of playing most number of T20Is as the captain who also kept wickets. Aguilleira led West Indies in 62 T20Is. However, she played 81 T20Is in total. She guided her team to the semi-finals of T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2014.

In 2016, West Indies finally won their first title under new skipper Stafanie Taylor, while Aguilleira played her role behind the stumps in the big event. After the big win, Merissa Aguilleira appeared in World Cup 2017 and T20 World cup 2018. In total, she was a part of 9 international tournaments. She kept wickets for West Indies for a significant period 2008-2019. Aguilleira showcased her talent in 100 ODIs. She has amazing stats behind the stumps. In her remarkable ODI career she recorded 70 catches and 20 stumpings.

Besides her brilliance with the gloves, Aguilleira is a strong ambassador of women’s sports. She is of the view that women athletes must break the stereotypes. Merissa Aguilleira is considered one the most fantastic cricketers in the Caribbean.
