News in brief

  • A plethora of cricket overnight. England and India still going in their first T20 International. India have been sent in to bat by Charlie Dean. No Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana stepping into the captaincy role. “She’s resting today, no concerns at all, I think she’ll be ready for the second match.
  • India finished with 188/7 against England who are yet to bat.
  • West Indies had a crushing 8 wicket victory over Ireland in the tri-series being held in Dublin. Windies’ skipper Hayley Matthews announced her arrival with 82* in a run chase of 103. (Scores below)
  • Up north, a similar one sided result for Scotland against the Netherlands, winning by 9 wickets. Netherlands posted a reasonable total of 144/8 but it was run down inside 15 overs by a rampant Scottish top three. (scores below)
  • The final ladder positions in the Asia Games Qualifiers have been decided. Thailand and Malaysia finished first and second in Pool A, while Nepal and China did likewise in Pool B. The semi finals to be played tomorrow: Thailand v China, Nepal v Malaysia.
  • Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has named former national team captain Mary-Anne Musonda as Team Manager of the Zimbabwe Senior Women’s National Team.  “She brings invaluable experience from her years as an international cricketer and captain, and we believe her presence within the team environment will greatly contribute to our efforts to rebuild a strong and competitive women’s side,” ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni.
  • Preview of the Netherlands and their hopes for the World Cup.
  • Still two squads to name for the World Cup, with West Indies and Sri Lanka yet to announce, although the latter may have been waiting on the series between Sri Lanka A and New Zealand A to complete. Squads named so far.
