Sibanda Hat Trick Sinks Namibia in Second Over

A stunning first over from Zimbabwe’s Nomvelo Sibanda which included a hat trick, torpedoed the Namibian innings before it had time to get going. Namibia never recovered and victory was swift for Zimabwe, winning the final of the Capricorn Tri-series 2022.

Mary-Anne Musonda won the toss for Zimbabwe and sent Namibia in to bat. A leg bye in the first over from Josephine Nkomo was a modest, yet steady start, certainly no indication of the carnage about to be witnessed in the second.

The first delivery saw Edelle van Zyl score a single.

Sibanda had secured the hat trick and effectively the trophy, for there was no realistic coming back from having the three best batters back in the sheds for just three runs. Yasmeen Khan was removed by Sibanda in the 4th over. There would be no recovery today. Sibanda finished with 5-14 and Namibia were bowled out for just 70.

A brief glimmer of hope with the early removal of Sharne Meyers, but the young gun Kelis Ndlovu picked up from where she’d left two days ago against the same team and was in sparkling form to top score for the match with 33. Musonda finished the match with a six and completed a 7 wicket win in just over 9 overs at a run rate of 8.29.

For her splendid haul, Sibanda was named Player of the Match and the Zimbabwe team collected the trophy to be champions of the Capricorn Tri-Series 2022.
