Austria v Italy 18 Aug 2022 (am)

Series: Italy in Austria August 2022
Venue: Seebarn Cricket Ground
Format: T20I
Toss: Italy
Result: Italy by 106 runs

After Italy’s Kumudu Peddrick won the toss and chose to bat, it was raining boundaries, the visitors scoring an imposing 163/3 from their 20 overs.

For the second successive match, Sharon Withanage scored a half century, particularly aggressive on anything short outside off stump. She had good support along the way with Dilaisha Nanayakkara (27) and Chathurika Mahamalage (24) and the only thing to stop her was her own body, cramps forcing her to retire hurt. Her 53 not out is (to date) the highest score by an Italian batter.

Only one of the Austrian bowlers escaped the carnage, with left-arm slow bowler Soujanya Chamundaiah taking 1-18 from her 4 overs, easily the most economical. The normally bankable Valentina Avdylaj went for 41 runs from her 4 overs, an example of just how aggressive the Italian batters were.

Not much to speak of in the Austrian reply, all out for 57. Kumudu Peddrick took 3-6 which is the best return for an Italian bowler. The victory margin of 106 took the Italians to a 2-0 lead in the series.
